Health and wellbeing boards were introduced in 2012 as part of the Health and Social Care Act. They bring together different organisations to plan how best to meet the needs of a county’s population.
The health and wellbeing boards also tackle health inequalities in health in the local population. Our area is covered by two health and wellbeing boards, one in Hertfordshire and one in Essex.
Members of the health and wellbeing boards includes the NHS, public health, adult social care and children’s services, councilors from county and district/borough, local Healthwatch and the Police and Crime Commissioner, to plan how best to meet the needs of a county’s population and tackle local inequalities in health.
